Cedar Falls Based Media Company Expands
KMAQ Has Been Serving Maquoketa Since 1958
7/9/2024
For Immediate Release
KMAQ AM/FM in Maquoketa will have a new owner for the first time in 66 years.
Longtime owner, Dennis Voy, has been the voice of KMAQ Radio Station since it went on the air on August 18th, 1958. Dennis & KMAQ Radio Station have been serving the KMAQ listening area of Jackson, Clinton, and Jones counties for 66 years. In that time, KMAQ has expanded from one radio frequency to three radio frequencies, attending thousands of local events and fairs, hosted thousands of community members for on air interviews and donated extensively back into the community. The station has been the go-to place for current local and national news, severe weather updates, obituaries and school cancellations.

Dennis will entrust KMAQ to new owner, Jim Coloff. Jim is the owner of Coloff Media which owns 12 radio stations throughout Iowa, including KCMH in Manchester. He also owns stations in Cedar Falls-Waterloo, Charles City, New Hampton, Mason City, Forest City and Britt.
Dennis and Jim have been acquaintances for many years, and Coloff said he has always had a special fondness for Dennis and KMAQ Radio. “I have admired Dennis and his radio stations for many years. He has been a great supporter of the community and ran several successful businesses during his business career. I always enjoyed my visits with Dennis and learned from watching the things he did in his career.”
All current employees will continue with KMAQ Radio Station through the transition. Sarah Meyer, who is the long-time manager of KMCH in Manchester, will serve as interim station manager, and a new Operations Manager has been appointed. James Shaman, of Redfield, South Dakota, will move to Maquoketa soon and has already fallen in love with the local community on his trips to visit the station this summer.
KMAQ will remain a hometown radio station that is invested in the local community. “We do business the same way Dennis has served the community,” said Coloff. “We believe in strong coverage of local news, severe weather, local sports, farm news, community events and effective advertising for our local businesses.”
Jim plans to become involved in the local community, just like Dennis has been for decades. Jim and James have already become major Cardinal fans, both Maquoketa & St. Louis, and KMAQ Radio will continue to be heavily involved in all local sports. “We have a great team in place that has served the community with Dennis for many years. We hope to build on their success, and bring some new technology and sound to the airwaves of Eastern Iowa.”
Coloff said one new addition will be their Coloff Digital division, which specializes in building websites, producing videos, graphic design and digital advertising services. A new website for www.kmaq.com is also planned for the near future.
